So Long, Beltran

December 22, 2011

So there he goes. Carlos Beltran agreed to a 2 year contract with the Cardinals worth $13 million per annum, which includes a full no-trade clause and daily meetings with real hitters. He’s expected to serve as the right fielder to start the season in the absence of Allen Craig, then likely as the center fielder upon his return, and DH in interleague games per Rosenthal. Though he won’t put up Pujols’ numbers at Busch, $13 million a year is a very reasonable deal for Beltran, who should have no trouble earning his wage so long as he stays healthy enough.

He hit .323/.369/.551 with 7 HR in 44 games with the Giants, and it’s quite sad that the Giants didn’t even bother to submit an offer to retain him. However, let’s forget about Affeldt, Melky, Pagan, Zack Wheeler, and the 81 sold out games this season and shift our attention to the iPads that Neukom bought for the clubhouse. They are the criminals responsible for our empty ownership’s pockets rainy-day fund!
