Early Notes on the Winter Meetings
December 5, 2011
Here’s some details on what transpired in Day 1:
- Giants reportedly placed a bid on Japanese shortstop Hiroyuki Nakajima, however Sabean adamantly refuted this rumor. Nakajima posted a line of .297/.354/.433 with 16 home runs for the Seibu Lions in 2011.
- According to Jayson Stark, the Giants are interested in re-signing DeRosa, which would likely be to a minor-league contract.
- Chris Haft reports that the Giants scheduled a meeting with Ryan Ludwick’s agent today. Ludwick hit a robust .237/.310/.363 with 13 HR in 2011 at the age of 33, heralding a potential 9-year contract for his efforts. Really? Ryan Ludwick?
- Baggarly posted that Aubrey Huff will be seeing more left field next season to accomodate Buster’s transition back to catching, who will see playing time at first base.
- Cody Ross is looking for a 3-year deal, signaling a likely end to his tenure with the Giants. Update: Giants still his “number one choice.”
